Robert “Bob” C. LaVoy, 100, of Temperance, MI, died Saturday, January 13, 2018, at Aspen Grove Assisted Living. Born August 8, 1917, in Erie, Michigan he was the son of Tobias and Clara (Haverstock) LaVoy. A 1936 graduate of Central Catholic High School, he then served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He married Rosemary Arvay on November 6, 1948, and she preceded him in death on December 17, 2009. Bob was employed as a rural letter carrier for the United States Post Office in Temperance for 30 years, retiring in 1973. He also was a self employed farmer for 51 years. Bob was a charter and active member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Temperance, where he belonged to the Keen-Agers and the Knights of Columbus, Council,8902. He was also a member of the V.F.W., 3925, Erie, MI. Bob was a very sociable, quick witted character, fun to be with and an independent thinker with a firm handshake. He will be greatly missed. Surviving are his loving children, John (Terri) LaVoy, Christine (Timothy) Wilds, Mick (Bonnie) LaVoy, Frank (Geri) LaVoy and Pete (Sue) LaVoy; 19 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and a great great grandchild. Bob was also preceded in death by a sister, Marian Snyder; brother, George LaVoy and step-brothers, Don and Elmer Luzius. Visitation will be from 3-9 pm, Thursday, January 18, 2018, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, January 19, 2018, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 8330 Lewis Avenue, Temperance, MI, where he will lie in state after 10:00 am. Memorials may be to the church or charity of the donor’s choice. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
